ThinkTransit 2026 brought the transit industry to Boston for a week full of honest conversations, shared experiences, and practical ideas. As the host, the Vontas team had the chance to see firsthand how agencies are approaching change and where the industry is heading next.
One idea carried through the entire event: Progress happens when people come together to solve real problems. From the opening keynote through the final sessions, the focus stayed grounded in what agencies are dealing with right now. The conversations were open, the insights were practical, and the energy carried well beyond the session rooms.
Turning Conversations Into Real Progress
There was plenty of discussion about topics such as AI, cybersecurity, safety, and data. What stood out was how those topics were approached. The emphasis stayed on what agencies are doing today. In sessions and product discussions, teams shared how they are improving reliability, better using data, and adapting to changing service demands. These were real examples from agencies navigating real constraints.
The Solutions Center played a big role in that experience. It was one of the most active spaces at the event, bringing together technology providers, live demonstrations, and ongoing conversations throughout the day. Attendees could see solutions in action, ask detailed questions, and hear how others are approaching similar challenges.
That mix of hands-on exploration and peer insight often led to new ways of thinking about familiar challenges. Conversations with partners and peers often turned into deeper discussions around implementation, integration, and what it really takes to bring new ideas into day-to-day operations.
A Space for Leadership to Speak Candidly
The Executive Summit created one of the most valuable environments of the week. Transit CEOs and senior leaders came together to talk openly about the issues shaping their organizations. Cybersecurity, AI, and safety came up often, but the conversation went deeper than the topics themselves. It focused on how leaders are making decisions, where they are seeing risk, and how they are preparing their teams for what’s ahead.
What made these sessions meaningful was the level of honesty from all sides. Leaders shared what is working, where things are still evolving, and how they are approaching change inside their agencies. That kind of exchange is hard to replicate anywhere else.
Partnerships That Make a Difference
One of the highlights of the week was recognizing Long Beach Transit (LBT) with the “Excellence in Transit Technology Planning & Partnerships Award.” LBT’s work reflects what can happen when teams align internally and build strong partnerships externally. Through our close collaboration, the LBT team has taken a thoughtful approach to modernizing its technology while keeping service at the center.
That recognition speaks to something we saw throughout the event. Technology matters, but how it’s implemented matters just as much. Strong partnerships help agencies move forward with more confidence and fewer setbacks. Customer-led sessions reinforced this idea again and again. Agencies shared what they’ve learned along the way, giving others a clearer path forward.
Seeing Transit in Action
Boston gave attendees the opportunity to step outside the conference and experience transit up close. The MBTA tours offered a look at how the systems operate every day. The Inner Harbor Ferry tour showed how service is expanding. The Mattapan Line tour highlighted the reality of maintaining a historic fleet while planning for the future. The Operations Control Center tour gave a behind-the-scenes look at how teams coordinate service across the region. These experiences helped add context to everything discussed throughout the week, showed how strategy connects to daily operations, and why flexibility matters.
The Conversations That Matter Most
As with many in-person events, some of the most valuable moments happened in between the scheduled sessions. Many ideas were tested, refined, and carried forward in the Solutions Center, during networking events, and in conversations that started casually and turned into something more meaningful.
This is what we created ThinkTransit for. When we started this event, we wanted to create a space for those conversations to happen naturally, bringing together agencies, partners, and teams working toward the same goal. As the host, we see that as one of the most important parts of the event. It’s where real progress begins.
Looking Ahead to What’s Next
As the week wrapped up, it became clear that transit agencies are moving forward with purpose. We’re proud to see that there’s a shared focus on improving service, strengthening operations, and preparing for what’s ahead in the industry. The conversations in Boston reflected that mindset, and the momentum is already building for what comes next.
ThinkTransit 2027 will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, from April 11–14. We’re looking forward to continuing the conversations, building new connections, and bringing the industry together again, Save the date- we’ll see you there.
